Social4Good (S4G) is an all-volunteer, grassroots organization that brings together engaged women who want to meet new people and support the organizations that make our community strong. Each month, this column will highlight S4G’s monthly project to raise awareness of critical needs in our community and local nonprofits making a difference.
October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month and S4G teamed up with The Women’s Center to provide comfort to victims of domestic violence and financial support for mental health services. The Women Center’s Break the Cycle Program currently supports over thirty clients providing the continuum of care to help them find physical safety, economic stability, and improved mental health. Its’ Advocacy and Counseling Program supports women survivors through the provision of mental health services.
On 23 October, S4G members attended a High Tea Social AND Good where they provided encouragement to thirty domestic violence survivors by creating Comfort Baskets filled with items designed to support their journey to well-being. Members and guests learned more about the state of domestic violence and needed support from the Director of Domestic Abuse and Social Violence Services at The Women’s Center and a graduate of the Break the Cycle Program who presented on her journey and role as an ambassador to help others. In addition to the 30 Comfort Baskets, Social4Good members generously donated over $2,300 to be used by The Women’s Center to provide advocacy and counseling to women in their Break the Cycle program.
