Social4Good Makes Dreams Come True

By Sarah Shamlal, Social4Good

In February, S4G hosted a heart warming project to aid the efforts of SOHO. Through financial and in-kind donations, S4G members supported SOHO’s goal to provide every participant with a personalized Space
of Her Own that encourages creativity, conveys a sense of value, and serves as a lasting reminder of her circle of support and care. Each of the 36 preteen girls were provided a kit that included mattress pads, pillows, throw blankets, and underbed storage; as well as cleaning products for their families.

Due to the generosity of S4G members, funds were given to each girls’ mentor to choose bedding that would make their room transformations more personalized.
Space of Her Own, Inc. (SOHO),, is an award-winning 501c3 charitable organization committed to helping girls make good choices, live healthfully, communicate openly, progress academically, and give back to others in order to lead fulfilling lives.
Two programs for 5th graders operate from Alexandria, VA, supporting a total of 25 girls; a new program was recently started in Arlington, supporting 11 girls.
The SOHO Club provides activities and services to SOHO girls and their mentors throughout their middle school years, promoting long-term mentoring relationships and ongoing learning opportunities.

At the social event hosted by a member on February 28th, members helped package donations and learned more about SOHO’s award-winning program. “At SOHO, we encourage girls to dream, learn, and grow as they engage in weekly activities in visual arts, carpentry, interior design and STEM. Our engaging life skill-building activities, and each girl’s relationship with her mentor, foster strength, resilience, and confidence—helping our girls thrive.
Thank you to Social4Good members for generously supporting this years’ thirty-six space transformations, and for sharing our belief that we are stronger as a community when we work together to support the lives of those who need us most.” Linda Odell, Founder & Director S4G is an all-volunteer, grassroots organization that brings together engaged women who want to meet new
